Single Photon
Single-photon imaging leverages the detection of individual photons to achieve high sensitivity and temporal resolution in various imaging modalities, addressing limitations of traditional cameras in low-light or high-speed scenarios. Current research focuses on improving energy efficiency through computational methods like photon inhibition and developing efficient data compression techniques using equi-depth histograms, alongside the application of machine learning for tasks such as source quality estimation, image super-resolution, and 3D reconstruction. These advancements are driving progress in diverse fields, including 3D vision, LiDAR, and quantum technologies, by enabling high-fidelity imaging under challenging conditions with reduced computational and bandwidth requirements.
