Situation Model

Situation models are cognitive representations that integrate information from text, images, or other sensory inputs to create a rich understanding of a described situation, going beyond literal interpretations. Current research focuses on developing computational models, often employing transformer architectures or multi-layer perceptrons, to automatically generate and utilize situation models for tasks like image captioning, situation recognition, and commonsense reasoning. This work aims to improve machine understanding of complex scenarios and human-human interactions, with applications ranging from autonomous vehicle safety to more natural and intuitive human-computer interaction. The ability to accurately model situations is crucial for advancing artificial intelligence's capacity for nuanced comprehension and decision-making.
