Skin Deformation
Skin deformation research focuses on understanding and modeling how skin reacts to external forces and internal dynamics, aiming to improve realism in computer graphics and robotics, and enhance medical imaging and diagnostics. Current research employs diverse approaches, including physics-based simulations, recurrent neural networks for predicting dynamic deformations, and machine learning techniques to map RGB albedo to underlying biophysical skin properties. These advancements are impacting fields like hand rehabilitation robotics through improved haptic feedback and dermatology via the creation of more realistic and diverse synthetic datasets for AI model training.
