Slow Slip

Slow slip events (SSEs) are slow, aseismic movements along tectonic faults, distinct from sudden earthquake ruptures. Current research focuses on improving detection methods, particularly using advanced signal processing techniques like spatiotemporal graph neural networks and deep autoencoders to filter noise from geodetic and sensor data, enabling more precise measurements of these subtle movements. Understanding SSEs is crucial for improving earthquake forecasting models and for enhancing the reliability of robotic manipulation systems, where detecting incipient slip is vital for safe and effective operation.
