Snow Accumulation
Snow accumulation research focuses on accurately predicting and understanding historical and future snowfall patterns, primarily in polar regions, to better understand climate change impacts. Current research employs machine learning models, particularly recurrent graph convolutional networks and graph attention networks, to analyze airborne radar data of ice layers within ice sheets, enabling improved predictions of annual snow accumulation based on the thickness of these layers. These advancements are crucial for refining climate models and improving predictions of sea-level rise, while related research also explores the detection of ice accumulation on wind turbines to optimize energy production and prevent equipment failure.
