Social Agent

Social agents are computational entities designed to interact naturally and effectively within social contexts, aiming to replicate or surpass human-like social intelligence. Current research emphasizes improving their ability to understand and respond appropriately to complex social cues, including detecting manipulation, learning social norms from natural language, and developing more sophisticated models of other agents' mental states (Theory of Mind). This work utilizes various approaches, such as reinforcement learning with rivalry mechanisms, cognitively inspired architectures incorporating memory and emotion, and anomaly detection algorithms to enhance robustness. The development of more believable and ethically sound social agents has significant implications for fields ranging from human-computer interaction and AI safety to assistive technologies and virtual world design.
