Social Event Detection
Social event detection focuses on automatically identifying and classifying significant events from diverse data streams, primarily social media, aiming to improve real-time event understanding and response. Current research emphasizes developing robust models that handle data heterogeneity (across languages, platforms, and data types), address class imbalance issues, and incorporate temporal information and uncertainty quantification, often leveraging graph neural networks, federated learning, and pre-trained language models. These advancements are crucial for applications ranging from public opinion analysis and crisis management to risk assessment and personalized information dissemination.
