Social Generic
"Social Generic" research broadly investigates the use and impact of generalizations about social groups in various contexts, focusing on understanding their prevalence, effects, and implications for reasoning and communication. Current research employs machine learning techniques, particularly large language models (LLMs) and diffusion models, to analyze social media data and assess the reasoning capabilities of AI systems regarding generics and exceptions. This work is significant for its potential to improve AI's understanding of nuanced human language and social dynamics, as well as for informing strategies to mitigate the harmful effects of biased generalizations in online communication and other applications.
