Social User Geolocation
Social user geolocation focuses on determining the geographic location of social media users or their posts, aiming to improve location-based services and enhance our understanding of online behavior. Current research emphasizes leveraging multimodal data (text, images, hashtags) and advanced architectures like transformers and contrastive learning models to improve the accuracy of location inference, particularly at the fine-grained level of points of interest (POIs). These advancements are significant for various applications, including targeted marketing, recommendation systems, and epidemiological studies, by providing more precise and comprehensive location data from social media platforms.
