Socratic Method
The Socratic method, a teaching approach emphasizing guided questioning rather than direct instruction, is being actively explored in the context of large language models (LLMs). Current research focuses on using LLMs to generate Socratic dialogues for various applications, including mathematics education, positive text rewriting, and code debugging, often employing techniques like reinforcement learning and preference optimization to improve the quality and validity of generated questions. This work aims to leverage the LLM's ability to engage in complex reasoning and self-evaluation, potentially enhancing learning outcomes and providing scalable, automated support for educational and therapeutic interventions.
