Sound Synthesis

Sound synthesis aims to create realistic audio from various sources, driven by a need for immersive experiences in virtual environments and creative applications. Current research focuses on improving realism through hybrid approaches combining physics-based models (e.g., modal resonators and differentiable filters) with data-driven methods like diffusion models, often leveraging visual input (e.g., videos) to enhance accuracy. These advancements are improving the fidelity of synthesized sounds, particularly for complex phenomena like impacts and thunder, though achieving perfect realism remains a challenge, as evidenced by ongoing efforts to refine existing models based on perceptual evaluations.
