Current research focuses on efficiently computing or bounding spectral norms, especially for convolutional layers in deep learning models, often employing iterative methods like Gram iteration or leveraging Kronecker product factorizations for improved computational efficiency. These advancements are significant because controlling spectral norm helps mitigate issues like exploding gradients and improves the performance and reliability of various machine learning applications, including image classification, generative adversarial networks, and inverse problems.
