Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorder (SUD) research is increasingly leveraging social media data to understand user experiences, identify at-risk individuals, and mitigate the pervasive stigma surrounding SUDs. Current research employs machine learning models, including transformer architectures like BERT and GPT, along with novel multi-label classification approaches, to analyze online text for indicators of SUD severity, treatment outcomes, and the presence of stigmatizing language. These efforts aim to improve SUD detection, personalize treatment strategies, and create more supportive online environments, ultimately contributing to more effective public health interventions and reducing the significant societal burden of SUDs.
