System Theoretic Process Analysis
System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) is a safety analysis method used to identify hazards in complex systems, particularly those involving artificial intelligence and software. Current research focuses on adapting STPA for distributed development environments, like those in autonomous driving and healthcare, and exploring its integration with large language models to enhance efficiency and potentially improve hazard identification. The significance of this work lies in its potential to improve the safety and reliability of increasingly complex sociotechnical systems, addressing both technical malfunctions and broader ethical and societal risks.
