Tau Protein

Tau protein, a microtubule-associated protein, is a central focus in Alzheimer's disease (AD) research due to its role in the formation of neurofibrillary tangles, a hallmark of the disease. Current research emphasizes developing accurate and accessible methods for detecting and quantifying tau pathology, including the use of machine learning models like diffusion models and U-Nets to analyze tau PET scans and MRI images, often incorporating multimodal data such as APOE genotype and hippocampal morphometry. These efforts aim to improve early AD diagnosis and potentially monitor disease progression, ultimately contributing to better treatment strategies and a deeper understanding of AD pathogenesis.
