Teaching Intonation Assessment
Teaching intonation assessment focuses on developing methods to automatically evaluate the intonation used by teachers, a crucial aspect of effective language instruction. Current research employs machine learning models, often leveraging transformer architectures like Whisper, to analyze speech signals and extract features related to pitch, rhythm, and pauses, creating datasets for training and evaluating these models. This work is significant because accurate intonation assessment can provide valuable feedback to teachers, improving their communication skills and ultimately enhancing student learning, while also advancing the broader field of speech analysis and synthesis.
