Thermal Geo Localization

Thermal geo-localization (TG) uses thermal imagery from UAVs and satellite databases to determine the UAV's location, offering a robust alternative to GPS, especially in low-light conditions or when GPS signals are unreliable. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and robustness of TG algorithms, often employing deep learning techniques like homography estimation to overcome challenges posed by indistinct thermal features and limited image overlap. This technology is crucial for enhancing the autonomous navigation capabilities of UAVs across various applications, including search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, and environmental monitoring.
