Tiny Object
Tiny object detection and tracking are challenging computer vision problems focusing on identifying and following extremely small objects in images and videos, often containing only a few pixels. Current research emphasizes improving feature extraction for these objects, employing novel architectures like "bottom-heavy" backbones that prioritize high-resolution features, and developing new evaluation metrics beyond traditional Intersection over Union (IoU). These advancements are crucial for applications ranging from automated micro-structure assembly and marine microplastic detection to aerial surveillance and astronomical observation, improving the accuracy and efficiency of analysis in diverse scientific and practical domains.
