Tongue Motion
Research on tongue motion focuses on understanding its complex relationship with speech production and its implications for speech disorders. Current investigations utilize advanced imaging techniques like tagged MRI and ultrasound, coupled with deep learning models such as transformers and convolutional neural networks, to analyze 3D and 4D tongue motion fields and their acoustic correlates. This work aims to improve speech analysis, develop more effective treatments for speech impairments, and create assistive technologies, such as robotic feeding systems that account for dynamic tongue movements during eating. The ultimate goal is to enhance our understanding of speech motor control and improve the lives of individuals with speech difficulties.
