Topic Specific Metaphor
Topic-specific metaphor research investigates how metaphors are used and understood within particular contexts, aiming to improve computational models of language and enhance our understanding of human cognition. Current research focuses on developing and evaluating models, such as Rational Speech Act (RSA) models and various neural network architectures, to detect and interpret metaphors, often leveraging large language models and incorporating features like soft labels and multimodal data (text, audio, video). This work has implications for natural language processing applications, including improved machine translation, sentiment analysis, and mental health diagnostics, as well as providing insights into the cognitive mechanisms underlying metaphorical language processing.
