Ultrasonic Motor

Ultrasonic motors (USMs), driven by piezoelectric actuators, offer compact, fast-responding alternatives to traditional motors, particularly in applications requiring MRI compatibility or precise control. Current research emphasizes improving USM design and control through advanced finite element modeling (FEM) for accurate simulation of dynamic behavior, including start-up and steady-state operation, and exploring novel materials like plastics to enhance MRI compatibility and reduce artifacts. These advancements are significant for applications ranging from minimally invasive surgery and robotics to high-precision pointing systems in nanosatellites, improving performance and expanding the range of possible applications.
