Vendi Score
The Vendi score is a novel diversity metric designed to evaluate the variety within a dataset or the output of a generative model, addressing limitations of existing methods by incorporating similarity measures and avoiding reliance on reference distributions. Current research focuses on extending the Vendi score's capabilities, including weighting by quality to improve experimental design and creating a family of related metrics with varying sensitivities to rare versus common items. This work has significant implications for diverse fields, enhancing the development of generative models (e.g., improving geographic representation in image generation), optimizing experimental design across scientific disciplines, and facilitating more robust and insightful analyses of data diversity.
