Virtual Microphone
Virtual microphones leverage computational techniques to simulate multiple microphones from a smaller number of physical sensors, enhancing audio capture and processing capabilities. Current research focuses on using machine learning, particularly neural networks (including convolutional and acoustics-informed architectures), to accurately predict sound at virtual microphone locations, improving beamforming and spatial audio rendering. This technology is significantly impacting fields like virtual sound synthesis, enabling personalized audio experiences and more realistic auralization in virtual environments, and improving speaker diarization in challenging acoustic settings.
