Visual Acuity
Visual acuity, the sharpness of vision, is a key area of research focusing on improving diagnosis, prediction, and treatment of vision impairments. Current research employs machine learning models, including deep neural networks and transformer architectures, to analyze diverse data sources like optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and patient history to predict visual acuity outcomes, particularly after interventions like cataract surgery or intravitreal injections. These advancements aim to improve the accuracy of prognosis and personalize treatment strategies for conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, and age-related macular degeneration, ultimately enhancing patient care and quality of life. Furthermore, virtual reality simulations are being used to optimize the design of visual prostheses and assess their potential impact on visual acuity.
