Visual Culture
Visual culture research investigates how images and visual media shape and reflect cultural values and beliefs. Current studies focus on analyzing the cultural biases embedded within and perpetuated by large vision-language models (VLMs) like GPT-4V and DALL-E 2, examining how these models process and generate culturally-relevant content, and developing methods to mitigate biases. This research is crucial for understanding how AI systems impact the production and interpretation of visual information, highlighting the need for culturally-aware algorithms and prompting strategies to avoid reinforcing existing inequalities and stereotypes.
