Visual Impairment
Visual impairment research focuses on developing assistive technologies and improving diagnostic tools to enhance the independence and quality of life for individuals with vision loss. Current research employs various computer vision and machine learning techniques, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs), transformers, and large language models (LLMs), to create systems for object recognition, scene understanding, navigation assistance, and text reading. These efforts are significant because they address critical needs in accessibility, healthcare, and daily living, impacting both the development of assistive technologies and the understanding of visual processing.
