Volumetric Scene

Volumetric scene representation aims to create detailed 3D models of environments from various input sources, such as images and sensor data, enabling realistic view synthesis and scene understanding. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and efficiency of these representations, often employing neural radiance fields (NeRFs) and related architectures, with advancements addressing challenges like handling diverse materials (glossy, translucent surfaces), efficient rendering, and multi-sensor calibration. These advancements have significant implications for applications ranging from autonomous navigation and robotics to virtual and augmented reality, and scientific visualization, particularly in fields like planetary exploration.
