Waste Segregation
Waste segregation, the process of sorting waste materials into different categories for recycling, reuse, or disposal, is crucial for environmental sustainability and resource management. Current research heavily utilizes computer vision and deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks, to automate this process, focusing on improving the accuracy and efficiency of waste classification through multimodal data analysis (e.g., combining hyperspectral and RGB imagery) and the development of robust object detection algorithms. These advancements hold significant promise for improving the efficiency of recycling facilities, reducing environmental pollution (including plastic waste tracked via satellite imagery), and facilitating the transition towards a circular economy.
