Calcium Scoring
Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring quantifies calcium deposits in coronary arteries, a strong predictor of cardiovascular events. Current research focuses on improving CAC scoring accuracy and accessibility through artificial intelligence, employing deep learning models like U-Nets and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to analyze both gated and non-gated CT scans, even leveraging chest X-rays. These advancements aim to enhance cardiovascular risk stratification by enabling more efficient and accurate CAC assessment, potentially improving preventative care and reducing mortality from heart disease. The development of robust, automated methods is particularly important for opportunistic screening using readily available imaging data.
