Calibrated Out of Distribution

Calibrated out-of-distribution (OOD) detection aims to improve the reliability of AI models by ensuring their confidence scores accurately reflect prediction accuracy, both for data within (in-distribution) and outside (out-of-distribution) the training distribution. Current research focuses on developing methods that enhance calibration through techniques like Bayesian learning, temperature scaling, and kernel density estimation, often incorporating data augmentation and meta-learning strategies to handle domain shifts. Successfully addressing this challenge is crucial for deploying AI models safely in real-world applications, particularly in high-stakes domains like medicine and engineering, where miscalibration can have significant consequences.
