Contour Tree
Contour trees are data structures used to represent the topological changes in a scalar field, such as elevation on a terrain or density in a medical scan, providing a hierarchical summary of its features. Current research focuses on robust algorithms for constructing contour trees from discrete data, including formal mathematical frameworks and the exploration of isomorphisms between different contour tree representations. This work is significant for improving the efficiency and accuracy of visualization and analysis techniques across diverse scientific domains, enabling better understanding of complex datasets.
