Implicit Discourse Relation
Implicit discourse relation recognition (IDRR) focuses on automatically identifying the semantic relationships between sentences in text where these relationships are not explicitly marked by conjunctions or other cues. Current research heavily utilizes deep learning models, particularly transformer-based architectures and contrastive learning methods, often incorporating hierarchical information about the relationships and exploring multi-label classification approaches to handle the inherent ambiguity of these relations. Advances in IDRR are crucial for improving various natural language processing tasks, such as text summarization and machine translation, by enhancing the understanding of textual coherence and overall meaning.
