Izhikevich Neuron

The Izhikevich neuron model is a computationally efficient yet biologically realistic spiking neuron model used extensively in simulating neural networks. Current research focuses on its application in neuromorphic computing, particularly within spiking neural networks (SNNs), and its integration into hardware platforms like Intel's Loihi chip, often in comparison to simpler models like the Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (LIF) neuron. This work aims to improve the biological plausibility and performance of SNNs for tasks such as image classification and speech recognition, while also exploring its use in solving differential equations. The Izhikevich model's versatility and efficiency make it a valuable tool for bridging the gap between theoretical neuroscience and practical applications in artificial intelligence.
