Language Aware Encoder

Language-aware encoders (LAEs) are designed to improve the performance of tasks like automatic speech recognition (ASR) and machine translation by explicitly incorporating language information into the encoding process. Current research focuses on enhancing LAEs through techniques like incorporating auxiliary tasks (e.g., speech translation), utilizing mixture-of-experts models for improved efficiency and accuracy, and developing robust architectures for handling both monolingual and multilingual data, including code-switching scenarios. These advancements are significant because they lead to more accurate and efficient processing of multilingual and multimodal data, impacting fields such as speech technology, natural language processing, and cross-lingual information retrieval.
