Location Privacy
Location privacy research focuses on protecting individuals' geographic information from unauthorized access and inference, driven by increasing concerns about data breaches and the potential for misuse of location data from various sources, including smartphones and social media. Current research explores novel methods for evaluating trajectory similarity, considering the rich contextual information embedded within geographic space, and investigates the vulnerabilities of large language models and other AI systems to inferring location from seemingly innocuous data like elevation profiles or images. These findings highlight the urgent need for robust privacy-preserving techniques and raise awareness of the potential for unintended location disclosure in the age of ubiquitous data collection and advanced AI.
