Polygonal Mesh
Polygonal meshes, fundamental data structures representing 3D shapes as interconnected polygons, are central to numerous applications, driving research towards efficient and accurate mesh generation and manipulation. Current efforts focus on developing novel algorithms, including neural network-based approaches like diffusion models and those leveraging quadric error metrics, to generate high-quality meshes from various input data (e.g., point clouds, signed distance functions) and improve existing meshing techniques such as the advancing front method. These advancements are crucial for enhancing the speed and accuracy of simulations in fields like finite element analysis and computer graphics, as well as enabling new possibilities in 3D modeling and shape representation.
