Social Inference

Social inference, the process of understanding others' mental states and intentions, is a crucial aspect of social interaction. Current research focuses on developing computational models, including Bayesian inverse planning engines coupled with large language models and neural networks, to simulate this complex process, particularly in multi-agent scenarios and situations where information is incomplete or indirectly observed. These models aim to improve our understanding of how humans perform social inference, with applications ranging from disaster response analysis using social media data to enhancing the efficiency of collaborative tasks. The ultimate goal is to create more accurate and computationally efficient models that can better predict and explain human social behavior.
