Spontaneous Dialogue
Spontaneous dialogue research focuses on understanding and modeling the nuances of naturally occurring conversations, differing significantly from scripted text. Current efforts concentrate on analyzing the distribution of discourse relations within these dialogues, developing models that accurately capture communicative feedback (like backchannels and clarification requests), and leveraging these insights for applications such as Alzheimer's detection through conversational AI and improved text-to-speech systems. These advancements are crucial for improving the realism and effectiveness of conversational AI and for developing more accurate diagnostic tools in healthcare.
