Abstract

We present the first study of cross-sensor view synthesis across different modalities. We examine a practical, fundamental, yet widely overlooked problem: getting aligned RGB-X data, where most RGB-X prior work assumes such pairs exist and focuses on modality fusion, but it empirically requires huge engineering effort in calibration. We propose a match-densify-consolidate method. First, we perform RGB-X image matching followed by guided point densification. Using the proposed confidence-aware densification and self-matching filtering, we attain better view synthesis and later consolidate them in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). Our method uses no 3D priors for X-sensor and only assumes nearly no-cost COLMAP for RGB. We aim to remove the cumbersome calibration for various RGB-X sensors and advance the popularity of cross-sensor learning by a scalable solution that breaks through the bottleneck in large-scale real-world RGB-X data collection.

X-Splat: Unified Gaussian Splatting for Joint RGB and X-ray 3D Reconstruction

Jointly reconstructing RGB and X-ray provides new insights by connecting external appearance with internal structure, enabling a more complete understanding of real-world objects than single modality. Yet existing methods train separate models per modality and suffer from redundant geometry, alignment artifacts, and loose coupling that limits cross-modal insight discovery. We propose a unified representation in which all Gaussian primitives share a single set of geometric parameters, with only surface-proximal primitives additionally carrying appearance attributes. We perform cross-modal registration through clean multi-view stereo and X-ray geometric proxies instead of aligning two sets of optimized Gaussians, improving alignment stability. We then jointly optimize the unified representation via supervision from both modalities, complemented by a surface-depth consistency loss derived from X-ray geometry to guide RGB reconstruction. Experiments on the InsideOut dataset and our Flower & Insect dataset show that our framework achieves more robust cross-modal alignment, higher RGB rendering quality without compromising X-ray reconstruction, and a more compact representation than maintaining two independent geometries.

AVSplat: Dense-View Feed-Forward 3D Gaussian Splatting with Assist-View Preconditioning

Pose-free feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting enables novel view synthesis from uncalibrated multi-view images. Although more views should improve performance, existing methods often degrade with dense-view inputs because global aggregation spreads attention over many tokens, and naive voxel fusion averages many Gaussians into overly smooth representations. We present AVSplat, a framework that turns additional views into reliable signals for both aggregation and representation. Before global attention, each view performs a single lightweight interaction with a small set of Assist Views chosen for relevance and diversity, and the cached features provide a focused scene context that stabilizes correspondence. For representation, we use adaptive temperature-aware voxel fusion that sharpens attribution under high occupancy, guided by occupancy and point confidence. Crucially, AVSplat restores positive view scaling where performance remains stable or improves as more input views are added, instead of degrading in the dense-view regime. Ablations show that Assist View Preconditioning is primarily responsible for preventing dense-view degradation, while Occupancy-guided Voxel Fusion contributes most of the single-point image-quality gains.

XCalib Depth-Guided Geometric Optimization for Dense Thermal-Visible Video Registration

Image registration is a vital preprocessing step in multimodal perception tasks, including image fusion, object detection, and semantic segmentation. In Advanced Driver- Assistance Systems (ADAS), spatial misalignment between visible (RGB) and infrared (IR) cameras -caused by non-coincident optical axes and field-of-view differences- introduces non-uniform parallax and visual ghosting. Classical keypoint-based methods are restricted to global homographies that fail under dynamic depth, while unconstrained dense flow algorithms lack structural regularization and suffer from temporal instability. In this paper, we propose XCalib, an unsupervised dense thermal-visible registration framework that bridges this gap. Rather than serving as an absolute metric calibration tool, XCalib leverages virtual pinhole camera parameterization strictly as a geometric constraint space. By optimizing effective relative pose and intrinsics alongside predicted monocular metric depth, XCalib restricts the search space of spatial displacements to physically valid projection geometries. Our key contributions are: (1) a novel registration paradigm that uses camera parameterization as an implicit regularizer for dense cross-modal warping; (2) Normalized Edges Correlation (NEC), a robust structural similarity metric tailored to cross- spectral alignment; and (3) extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluations across public ADAS datasets, demonstrating superior temporal stability and alignment accuracy over unconstrained dense flow baselines.
