Abstract

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) increasingly relies on large vision-language models, but their inference cost conflicts with real-time deployment. Token caching is a promising training-free strategy that avoids redundant computation by reusing stable visual tokens across frames. However, existing methods assume a static camera and fixed semantic focus, assumptions that VLN fundamentally violates. We identify two failure modes: (1) visual dynamics, where viewpoint shift displaces token positions across frames, causing position-wise matching to pair misaligned content; (2) semantic dynamics, where token relevance shifts across task stages as navigation progresses, making cached states stale. We propose VLN-Cache, a visual-dynamic-aware and semantic-dynamic-aware caching framework that introduces view-aligned remapping to recover geometric correspondences and a task-relevance saliency filter to veto reuse at semantic transitions. A layer-adaptive entropy policy further balances the per-layer reuse budget. Experiments on the R2R-CE simulation benchmark show up to 1.52x speedup while maintaining competitive navigation success rates.

FreqCache: Accelerating Embodied VLN Models with Adaptive Frequency-Guided Token Caching

Vision-Language-Navigation (VLN) models exhibit excellent navigation accuracy but incur high computational overhead. Token caching has emerged as a promising training-free strategy to reduce this cost by reusing token computation results; however, existing token caching approaches rely on visual domain methods for cacheable token selection, leading to challenges when adapted to VLN models. 1) Visual domain methods become invalid when there is viewpoint migration. 2) Visual domain methods neglect critical edge information without the aid of additional algorithms. 3) Visual domain methods overlook the temporal variation of scenarios and lack adjustability in cache budgets. In this paper, we develop detailed analyses and find that the impacts of these challenges exhibit invariance and analyzability in the frequency domain. Based on these, we propose a frequency-guided token caching framework, called FreqCache. Utilizing the inherent properties of the frequency domain, FreqCache achieves optimal token cache establishment, refreshment, and adaptive adjustment. Experiments show that FreqCache achieves 1.59x speedup with ignorable overhead, showing the effect of integrating frequency domain methods in VLN token caching.

DyGeoVLN: Infusing Dynamic Geometry Foundation Model into Vision-Language Navigation

Vision-language Navigation (VLN) requires an agent to understand visual observations and language instructions to navigate in unseen environments. Most existing approaches rely on static scene assumptions and struggle to generalize in dynamic, real-world scenarios. To address this challenge, we propose DyGeoVLN, a dynamic geometry-aware VLN framework. Our method infuses a dynamic geometry foundation model into the VLN framework through cross-branch feature fusion to enable explicit 3D spatial representation and visual-semantic reasoning. To efficiently compress historical token information in long-horizon, dynamic navigation, we further introduce a novel pose-free and adaptive-resolution token-pruning strategy. This strategy can remove spatio-temporal redundant tokens to reduce inference cost. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple benchmarks and exhibits strong robustness in real-world environments.

Text-Vision Synergistic Token Caching: A Training-Free Framework for Efficient Vision-Language-Action Inference

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models enable generalizable robotic control but remain computationally expensive. Token caching provides a training-free, plug-and-play acceleration alternative. However, existing VLA caching does not fully exploit a key inductive bias of VLA models: text-vision synergy, wherein textual semantics guide the precise visual grounding of task-relevant regions. In particular, existing designs insufficiently account for head-wise reliability in attention aggregation and layer-wise stability in cache reuse. To address this, we propose Text-Vision Synergistic Token Caching (TVCache), a training-free framework for efficient VLA inference. TVCache filters attention heads based on text-vision information focus to improve task-relevant and physically consistent visual grounding. Concurrently, we introduce a reuse-layer selection mechanism guided by text-vision entropy differences to avoid caching unstable representations and improve cache resource allocation. Extensive experiments across four representative VLA models, two simulation benchmarks, and real-world robotic tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of TVCache. At matched token-retention ratios, TVCache consistently improves task success over existing VLA caching with comparable computational cost. On OpenVLA-OFT, it improves average success by up to 14.5 percentage points over VLA-Cache at 12.5% retention while reducing FLOPs by 2.45x relative to full-token inference.
