Abstract

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) enables global, all-weather earth observation. However, owing to diverse imaging mechanisms, domain shifts across sensors and regions severely hinder its semantic generalization. To address this, we present CrossEarth-SAR, the first billion-scale SAR vision foundation model built upon a novel physics-guided sparse mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture incorporating physical descriptors, explicitly designed for cross-domain semantic segmentation. To facilitate large-scale pre-training, we develop CrossEarth-SAR-200K, a weakly and fully supervised dataset that unifies public and private SAR imagery. We also introduce a benchmark suite comprising 22 sub-benchmarks across 8 distinct domain gaps, establishing the first unified standard for domain generalization semantic segmentation on SAR imagery. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CrossEarth-SAR achieves state-of-the-art results on 20 benchmarks, surpassing previous methods by over 10% mIoU on some benchmarks under multi-gap transfer. All code, benchmark and datasets will be publicly available.

GeoSET: Generalist Foundation Model for SAR-to-EO Image Translation

Paired synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and electro-optical (EO) imagery is increasingly available across sensors, resolutions, and geographic regions. Yet existing SAR-to-EO image translation (SET) methods are typically trained on a single, limited-scale dataset, producing models specialized to particular sensing conditions. We introduce GeoSET, the first generalist model for SET, built around a single pretrained parent that is adapted to downstream datasets under a common protocol. We curate over 3 million high-quality SAR--EO pairs from a collection of more than 10 million SAR observations, spanning diverse sensors, spatial resolutions, and ground sampling distances. To bridge the modality gap between SAR observations and a pretrained image generator, we develop a speckle-robust SAR encoder and pretrain the conditional generator on this heterogeneous corpus. The resulting parent supports efficient adaptation across downstream datasets through low-rank adaptation (LoRA), updating only 0.60% of the generator parameters and requiring approximately one hour per dataset. Across six downstream benchmarks, GeoSET achieves state-of-the-art results in FID and DISTS with full fine-tuning or LoRA, demonstrating effective transfer across heterogeneous SAR-EO domains.

OptiSAR-Net++: A Large-Scale Benchmark and Transformer-Free Framework for Cross-Domain Remote Sensing Visual Grounding

Remote sensing visual grounding (RSVG) aims to localize specific targets in remote sensing images using natural language expressions. However, existing methods are restricted to single-sensor domains, i.e., either optical or synthetic aperture radar (SAR), limiting their real-world applicability. In this paper, we introduce the Cross-Domain RSVG (CD-RSVG) task and construct OptSAR-RSVG, the first large-scale benchmark dataset for this setting. To tackle the challenges of cross-domain feature modeling, computational inefficiency, and fine-grained semantic discrimination, we propose OptiSAR-Net++. Our framework features a patch-level Low-Rank Adaptation Mixture of Experts (PL-MoE) for efficient cross-domain feature decoupling. To mitigate the substantial computational overhead of Transformer decoding frameworks, we adopt a CLIP-based contrastive paradigm and further incorporate dynamic adversarial negative sampling, thereby transforming generative regression into an efficient cross-modal matching process. Additionally, a text-guided dual-gate fusion module (TGDF-SSA) and a region-aware auxiliary head are introduced to enhance semantic-visual alignment and spatial modeling. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OptiSAR-Net++ achieves SOTA performance on both OptSAR-RSVG and DIOR-RSVG benchmarks, offering significant advantages in localization accuracy and efficiency. The model and dataset have been made publicly available at https://github.com/JunDong-dev/OptiSAR-Net-PlusPlus.

Unlocking Optical Prior: Spectrum-Guided Knowledge Transfer for SAR Generalized Category Discovery

Generalized Category Discovery (GCD) holds significant promise for the label-scarce Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) domain, yet its efficacy is severely constrained by the cross-modal incompatibility between the inherent optical prior of the Large Vision Models (LVMs) and SAR imagery. Existing domain adaptation methods often lack an inductive bias that reflects imaging characteristics, consequently failing to effectively transfer optical prior into the SAR domain. To address this issue, the Modal Discrepancy Curve (MDC) is introduced to model cross-modal discrepancy as a structured frequency-domain descriptor derived from spectral energy distributions. Leveraging this formulation, we propose the MDC-guided Cross-modal Prior Transfer (MCPT) framework, a pre-training paradigm that operates on paired optical-SAR data. Within this framework, Adaptive Frequency Tokenization (AFT) converts the MDC into learnable tokens, and Frequency-aware Expert Refinement (FER) performs band-wise discrepancy-aware feature refinement using these tokens. Based on the refined representations, contrastive learning aligns refined embeddings across modalities and internalizes the adaptation pattern. Ultimately, the superior SAR feature representation capability learned during paired pre-training is applied to downstream single-modal SAR-GCD tasks. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art performance across multiple mainstream datasets, indicating that frequency-domain discrepancy modeling enables more effective adaptation of optical prior to SAR imagery.
