Abstract

Diffusion-based text-to-video generation (T2V) or image-to-video (I2V) generation have emerged as a prominent research focus. However, there exists a challenge in integrating the two generative paradigms into a unified model. In this paper, we present a unified video generation model (UniVid) with hybrid conditions of the text prompt and reference image. Given these two available controls, our model can extract objects' appearance and their motion descriptions from textual prompts, while obtaining texture details and structural information from image clues to guide the video generation process. Specifically, we scale up the pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model for generating temporally coherent frames via introducing our temporal-pyramid cross-frame spatial-temporal attention modules and convolutions. To support bimodal control, we introduce a dual-stream cross-attention mechanism, whose attention scores can be freely re-weighted for interpolation of between single and two modalities controls during inference. Extensive experiments showcase that our UniVid achieves superior temporal coherence on T2V, I2V and (T+I)2V tasks.

UniVidX: A Unified Multimodal Framework for Versatile Video Generation via Diffusion Priors

Recent progress has shown that video diffusion models (VDMs) can be repurposed for diverse multimodal graphics tasks. However, existing methods often train separate models for each problem setting, which fixes the input-output mapping and limits the modeling of correlations across modalities. We present UniVidX, a unified multimodal framework that leverages VDM priors for versatile video generation. UniVidX formulates pixel-aligned tasks as conditional generation in a shared multimodal space, adapts to modality-specific distributions while preserving the backbone's native priors, and promotes cross-modal consistency during synthesis. It is built on three key designs. Stochastic Condition Masking (SCM) randomly partitions modalities into clean conditions and noisy targets during training, enabling omni-directional conditional generation instead of fixed mappings. Decoupled Gated LoRA (DGL) introduces per-modality LoRAs that are activated when a modality serves as the generation target, preserving the strong priors of the VDM. Cross-Modal Self-Attention (CMSA) shares keys and values across modalities while keeping modality-specific queries, facilitating information exchange and inter-modal alignment. We instantiate UniVidX in two domains: UniVid-Intrinsic, for RGB videos and intrinsic maps including albedo, irradiance, and normal; and UniVid-Alpha, for blended RGB videos and their constituent RGBA layers. Experiments show that both models achieve performance competitive with state-of-the-art methods across distinct tasks and generalize robustly to in-the-wild scenarios, even when trained on fewer than 1,000 videos. Uni-ViGU: Towards Unified Video Generation and Understanding via A Diffusion-Based Video Generator

Unified multimodal models integrating visual understanding and generation face a fundamental challenge: visual generation incurs substantially higher computational costs than understanding, particularly for video. This imbalance motivates us to invert the conventional paradigm: rather than extending understanding-centric MLLMs to support generation, we propose Uni-ViGU, a framework that unifies video generation and understanding by extending a video generator as the foundation. We introduce a unified flow method that performs continuous flow matching for video and discrete flow matching for text within a single process, enabling coherent multimodal generation. We further propose a modality-driven MoE-based framework that augments Transformer blocks with lightweight layers for text generation while preserving generative priors. To repurpose generation knowledge for understanding, we design a bidirectional training mechanism with two stages: Knowledge Recall reconstructs input prompts to leverage learned text-video correspondences, while Capability Refinement fine-tunes on detailed captions to establish discriminative shared representations. Experiments demonstrate that Uni-ViGU achieves competitive performance on both video generation and understanding, validating generation-centric architectures as a scalable path toward unified multimodal intelligence. Image-to-Video Diffusion: From Foundations to Open Frontiers

Diffusion-based image-to-video (I2V) generation has become a central direction in generative models by turning a reference image, with optional conditions, into a temporally coherent video. Compared with broader video generation settings, this task places stricter demands on content consistency, identity preservation, and motion coherence. Although the literature grows rapidly, existing works mostly discuss I2V generation within broader topics and still lack a dedicated taxonomy together with a systematic analysis centered on this field. This work addresses that gap by treating diffusion I2V generation as a standalone subject. It first reviews the task formulation, model architectures, datasets, and evaluation metrics, and then organizes existing methods through a taxonomy based on architecture and training paradigm. It further distills four core designs, namely condition encoding, temporal modeling, noise prior design, and spatial-temporal upsampling, and discusses representative application scenarios together with major open challenges.
