Abstract

The report presents with the development and optimisation of an enhanced algorithmic trading strategy through the use of historical S&P 500 market data and earnings call sentiment analysis. The proposed strategy integrates various technical indicators such as moving averages, momentum, volatility, and FinBERT-based sentiment analysis to improve overall trades being taken. The results show that the enhanced strategy significantly outperforms the baseline model in terms of total return, Sharpe ratio, and drawdown amongst other factors. The findings helped demonstrate the relevance and effectiveness of combining technical indicators, sentiment analysis, and computational optimisation in algorithmic trading systems.

Tabular Deep Learning for Algorithmic Trading: Cross-Regime Bayesian Optimisation for Equity Signal Generation

Algorithmic trading now represents a market exceeding $20 billion, where even marginal gains in signal robustness can translate into economically significant returns. Existing evaluations of equity prediction models do not explicitly target regime robustness during hyperparameter selection. Five model classes are trained on daily observations from approximately 300 large-cap US equities over eleven years, with Bayesian optimisation configured to target trading performance across three statistically different market regimes. Regime-robust hyperparameter selection is associated with out-of-sample generalisation, as signal precision remains above the random baseline across all four quarters of the test period, and portfolio performance slowly degrades under simulated input noise before collapsing beyond a defined threshold. No individual tabular deep learning architecture outperforms gradient-boosted trees, but combining XGBoost and TabNet using rank aggregation produces a Hybrid ensemble with an annualised return of 51.26%, a Sharpe ratio of 2.44, and a statistically significant CAPM alpha of 0.423 (p = 0.011). A near-zero beta indicates this outperformance is driven by stock selection, not market exposure. Alternative data plays a secondary role once technical and fundamental features are accounted for, as well as contributing more strongly on the short side than the long, and varies by model class. An interactive application makes these results explorable in real time, with live data integration the remaining step toward practical deployment.

MadEvolve: Evolutionary Optimization of Trading Systems with Large Language Models

We explore the application of LLM-driven algorithm optimization to several common tasks in quantitative finance. MadEvolve, a general-purpose algorithm optimization framework inspired by DeepMind's Alpha-Evolve, was recently developed to optimize algorithms in computational cosmology. Here we demonstrate the utility of MadEvolve to optimize algorithmic trading strategies and alpha generation at the example of Bitcoin trading. On our simulation and backtesting setup, we achieve significant improvements on all tasks we considered, such as evolving feature sets for signal generation, optimizing separate components of the trading strategy, and jointly evolving the feature pipeline together with the execution strategy. Additionally, we compare our method to other agentic search approaches, specifically Claude Code, and carefully evaluate p-hacking probabilities on our simulation setup. Our findings strongly support the utility of AI-driven agentic and evolutionary algorithms for algorithmic trading and quantitative finance.

Financial Context-Rich Strategy for Actor-Critic based Agents: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach for Stock Trading

In modern financial markets, more than 3/4th of the large volume trade is executed by algorithmic trading based on advanced trading strategies to attain higher precision and speed than traditional human traders. The conventional strategies focused on price-based indicators are inadequate in capturing the market dynamism arising from real-world events such as social sentiments, political instability, or sudden economic shifts. With the rise of Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) and data availability, there is a requirement for more efficient algorithms that can incorporate these external factors in trading strategies. DRL has shown potential in simulating real-world scenarios and in simplifying complex decision-making since DRL agents can automate the trading process i.e. executing trades in a manner comparable to human traders. They have shown reliable performance since they can update their policies based on risk and quantitative factors. In this paper, we propose a DRL approach based on partial and deep-infusion of sentimental analysis. It features distinct policy designs of actor-critic-based agents: only policy optimization (A2C & PPO) and policy optimization along with Q-learning principles (DDPG, TD3 & SAC). Our findings reveal, that the agents based on policy optimization combined with Q-learning, significantly and consistently demonstrate improved performance upon sentiment deep-infusion in profit maximization as well as risk-averse trading.
