Abstract

We present our winning system for TaskB (generation with reference passages) in SemEval-2026 Task8: MTRAGEval. Our method is a heterogeneous ensemble of seven LLMs with two prompting variants, where a GPT-4o-mini judge selects the best candidate per instance. We ranked 1st out of 26 teams, achieving a conditioned harmonic mean of 0.7827 and outperforming the strongest baseline (gpt-oss-120b, 0.6390). Ablations show that diversity in model families, scales, and prompting strategies is essential, with the ensemble consistently beating any single model. We also introduce Meno-Lite-0.1, a 7B domain-adapted model with a strong cost--performance trade-off, and analyse MTRAGEval, highlighting annotation limitations and directions for improvement. 5ting at SemEval-2026 Task 8: Strong End-to-End Multi-Turn RAG via LLM-Based Reranking and Faithfulness Control

We introduce 5ting, our system for the SemEval2026 Task 8 (MTRAGEval), which evaluates multi-turn Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. Multi turn RAG involves context drift, under specification, and hallucination risk. Our system combines BGE-M3 dense retrieval with FAISS indexing, dual-query merged retrieval, and LLM based reranking, followed by role separated generation constrained to retrieved evidence. The retriever achieved nDCG@5 = 0.4719 in Task A, while the end to end system ranked in Task C with a harmonic score of 0.5597 and RL_F = 0.7692.

Sifei at SemEval-2026 Task 8: Hybrid Retrieval and Query Rewriting for Multi-Turn RAG

Multi-turn retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is challenging due to evolving user intent, conversational noise, and strict context limits. We propose a training-free hybrid retrieval pipeline for SemEval-2026 Task 8 that combines dense and sparse retrieval with controlled query rewriting and cross-encoder reranking. On the official test set of Task A, our system achieves 0.5453 nDCG@5, ranking third among 38 teams and outperforming the strongest baseline score of 0.4795. For Task C, we reuse the documents retrieved for Task A and apply a lightweight generation pipeline guided by the official prompt, achieving 0.5312 as the harmonic mean of relevance and faithfulness and ranking 15th among 29 teams. All retrieval components are open-source, while query rewriting and answer generation rely on LLM APIs.

RAGthoven at SemEval-2026 Task 1: A Multi-Stage Pipeline Walks Into a Benchmark and Barely Clears the Bar

We present RAGthoven, our system for SemEval-2026 Task 1 (MWAHAHA), Subtask A (multilingual constrained humor generation in English, Spanish, and Chinese). RAGthoven decomposes creative text generation into a multi-stage large language model (LLM) pipeline (Planner, Best-of-N Writer, Reflector for self-critique, LLM-as-a-judge Judge) grounded in computational humor theory (Benign Violation Theory, Script-based Semantic Theory of Humor) and refined across ten experiments. In our final configuration, we augment the Planner with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) from a curated joke corpus, seeding generation with diverse joke mechanisms. We also evaluate two agentic variants -- ReAct-style sequential tool-calling (Exp09) and autonomous multi-branch orchestration (Exp10) -- that expose the same four stages with a deterministic ConstraintAudit checker. Across four frontier models on a held-out 12-instance English sample, neither agentic variant produced outputs we judged superior to the non-agentic pipeline despite substantially higher tool-call budgets. RAGthoven shares Rank 1 with the Gemini 2.5 Flash baseline in all three languages, with overlapping organizer-reported confidence intervals. In Spanish, it leads the baseline by 42 raw Elo points (1182 vs. 1140), while in English (1045 vs. 1081) and Chinese (1045 vs. 1053) the baseline holds the higher raw rating within the same statistical tie. Together, these results suggest language-dependent diminishing returns from elaborate multi-stage prompt engineering and agentic scaffolding once a strong frontier model is in the loop.
