Abstract

Despite the rapid progress of text-to-image (T2I) models, generating images that accurately reflect complex compositional prompts (covering attribute bindings, object relationships, counting) still remains challenging. To address this, we propose BiDPO, a framework to enhance T2I model's capability of compositional text-to-image generation. We begin by introducing an carefully designed pipeline to construct a large-scale preference dataset, BiComp, with strictly quality control. Then, we extend Diffusion DPO to jointly optimize image and text preferences, which is shown to greatly effective in improving the models to follow complex text prompt in generation. To further enhance the models for fine-grained alignment, we employ a region-level guidance method to focus on regions relevant to compositional concepts. Experimental results demonstrate that our BiDPO substantially improves compositional fidelity, consistently outperforming prior methods across multiple benchmarks. Our approach highlights the potential of preference-based fine-tuning for complex text-to-image tasks, offering a flexible and scalable alternative to existing techniques.

Detail++: Training-Free Detail Enhancer for T2I Diffusion Models

Recent advances in text-to-image (T2I) generation have led to impressive visual results. However, these models still face significant challenges when handling complex prompt, particularly those involving multiple subjects with distinct attributes. Inspired by the human drawing process, which first outlines the composition and then incrementally adds details, we propose Detail++, a training-free framework that introduces a novel Progressive Detail Injection (PDI) strategy to address this limitation. Specifically, we decompose a complex prompt into a sequence of simplified sub-prompts, guiding the generation process in stages. This staged generation leverages the inherent layout-controlling capacity of self-attention to first ensure global composition, followed by precise refinement. To achieve accurate binding between attributes and corresponding subjects, we exploit cross-attention mechanisms and further introduce a Centroid Alignment Loss at test time to reduce binding noise and enhance attribute consistency. Extensive experiments on T2I-CompBench and a newly constructed style composition benchmark demonstrate that Detail++ significantly outperforms existing methods, particularly in scenarios involving multiple objects and complex stylistic conditions.

EPIC: Efficient Predicate-Guided Inference-Time Control for Compositional Text-to-Image Generation

Recent text-to-image (T2I) generators can synthesize realistic images, but still struggle with compositional prompts involving multiple objects, counts, attributes, and relations. We introduce EPIC (Efficient Predicate-Guided Inference-Time Control), a training-free inference-time refinement framework for compositional T2I generation. EPIC casts refinement as predicate-guided search: it parses the original prompt once into a fixed visual program of object variables and typed predicates, covering checkable conditions such as object presence, counts, attributes, and relations. Each generated or edited image is verified against this program using visual evidence extracted from that image. An image is judged to satisfy the prompt only when all predicates are satisfied; otherwise, failed predicates decide the next step, routing local failures to targeted editing and global failures to resampling while the fixed visual program remains unchanged. On GenEval2, EPIC improves prompt-level accuracy from 34.16% for single-pass generation with the base generator to 71.46%. Under the same generator/editor setting and maximum image-model execution budget, EPIC outperforms the strongest prior refinement baseline by 19.23 points while reducing realized cost by 31% in image-model executions, 72% in MLLM calls, and 81% in MLLM tokens per prompt.

CompArt: Operationalizing Aesthetic Alignment in Text-to-Image Generation via Principles of Art

Text-to-Image (T2I) diffusion models have made rapid progress on semantic alignment (generating what is described in the prompt), yet users still lack reliable control over aesthetic composition (how visual elements are put together). Prior work often treats aesthetics as a single, preference-driven notion (e.g., "high quality", "detailed", "breathtaking"), which does not map cleanly to compositional intent. We propose Aesthetic Alignment: aligning generated images to explicit, user-specified compositional constraints. We operationalize these constraints using the Principles of Art (PoA)-e.g., Balance, Rhythm, and Emphasis-commonly used in art education to describe composition. To support this task, we introduce CompArt, a dataset of 80,032 WikiArt images augmented with captions and PoA analyses produced by a multimodal LLM under structured prompting. We further propose ArtDapter, a lightweight and disentangled adapter that enables steering a pretrained T2I model along 10 PoA dimensions while retaining the base model's semantic capability. Experiments on CompArt show improved adherence to PoA controls over strong baselines under a dual evaluation protocol.
