Demo2Tutorial: From Human Experience to Multimodal Software Tutorials

Abstract

Human experience in digital environments offers a vast, underexplored resource of authentic, untrimmed interactions that contain rich procedural knowledge. We introduce Demo2Tutorial, a framework that transforms this experience captured via screen recordings and interaction logs into structured, multimodal software tutorials for teaching both humans and agents. Demo2Tutorial first collects human experience via a dedicated recorder, then parses raw experience using a multimodal Action Parser to reconstruct perception, action, and intent. A Step Planner then abstracts these steps into hierarchical task graphs representing goals and steps. Finally, a Tutorial Composer transforms the parsed experience into structured, reusable image-text instructions. We evaluate the tutorial generation quality on a new benchmark derived from official software documentation. We further demonstrate that this distilled representation benefits (i) human learning, by automatically generating multimodal tutorials, and (ii) agent learning, by improving downstream GUI-agent planning and generalization. Experiments show Demo2Tutorial produces high-quality tutorials that surpass human-authored ones and significantly outperform baseline methods, while enabling both faster human task completion and improved GUI agent planning, demonstrating that structured tutorials distilled from human experience can serve as effective knowledge representations for advancing both human learning and agent capabilities. RESOURCE2SKILL: Distilling Executable Agent Skills from Human-Created Multimodal Resources

Skills are a useful abstraction for software agents, turning human and agent experience into reusable procedural knowledge. Yet existing skill libraries are mostly hand-written, text-centric, or derived from agent traces, leaving tutorial videos and other multimodal human resources largely underused. We present RESOURCE2SKILL, a framework that distills multimodal resources, including tutorial videos, repositories, articles, and reference artifacts, into executable skills for software agents. RESOURCE2SKILL organizes these skills as a hierarchical multimodal Skill Wiki, where each entry combines structured text, code, visual examples, metadata, and provenance. This design preserves complementary signals from different resources: videos capture temporal operations and visual effects, code captures executable tool patterns, and articles or artifacts provide conceptual and stylistic grounding. At inference time, agents retrieve and compose relevant skills from the wiki; when coverage is insufficient, the same construction operator can acquire new skills online. Across seven practical authoring domains, RESOURCE2SKILL improves average overall score by +11.9 percentage points over no-skill agents and outperforms strong harness baselines in 26 of 28 main-aggregate model-domain cells. Ablations confirm the value of multimodal skill format, hierarchical organization, source diversity, selection strategy, and online acquisition.

Video2GUI: Synthesizing Large-Scale Interaction Trajectories for Generalized GUI Agent Pretraining

Recent advances in multimodal large language models have driven growing interest in graphical user interface (GUI) agents, yet their generalization remains constrained by the scarcity of large-scale training data spanning diverse real-world applications. Existing datasets rely heavily on costly manual annotations and are typically confined to narrow domains. To address this challenge, we propose Video2GUI, a fully automated framework that extracts grounded GUI interaction trajectories directly from unlabeled Internet videos. Video2GUI employs a coarse-to-fine filtering strategy to identify high-quality GUI tutorial videos and convert them into structured agent trajectories. Applying this pipeline to 500 million video metadata entries, we construct WildGUI, a large-scale dataset containing 12 million interaction trajectories spanning over 1,500 applications and websites. Pre-training Qwen2.5-VL and Mimo-VL on WildGUI yields consistent improvements of 5-20% across multiple GUI grounding and action benchmarks, matching or surpassing state-of-the-art performance. We will release both the WildGUI dataset and the Video2GUI pipeline to support future research of GUI agents.

DigitalCoach: Communication and Grounding Gaps in Human and Agentic Computer Use Coaching

Agents are increasingly capable of automating software tasks, but can they teach humans how to use software themselves? We introduce DigitalCoach, a multimodal dataset of 72 human expert-novice computer use coaching sessions consisting of 22,752 dialogue turns grounded in 28.1 hours of screen and input event recordings across five software applications. We use DigitalCoach to evaluate whether state-of-the-art models can teach humans how to use computers. Automated evaluation shows that models differ from humans in how they coach: models provide more direct instructions, but fewer explanations, error diagnoses, and knowledge-check questions. When we fix the coaching method, models produce utterances similar to human references yet poorly grounded in visual context. Interactive evaluation confirms that model coaches cause learners to passively follow instructions without deeper engagement and fall short in visual grounding. DigitalCoach lays a foundation for collaborative and proactive computer use coaching agents. Data and code are available at https://project-digital-coach.vercel.app.
