Unified Audio Generation and Editing via Joint Condition Modeling and Progressive Training

Abstract

With the growing focus on audio in multimedia applications, numerous advanced works on audio generation have emerged. Existing studies typically treat text-to-audio (TTA) and other related audio generation tasks, such as instruction-based audio editing, as independent challenges, adopting task-specific architectures or modules. This absence of a unified modeling paradigm substantially increases the overhead and complexity of building a system for both audio generation and editing, while also leading to limited scalability. To address this issue, we introduce AudioWeave, a unified model for TTA and audio editing without additional task-specific components. Specifically, we propose a joint condition modeling approach with a factorized position embedding, enabling the diffusion transformer backbone to operate under heterogeneous inputs of TTA and audio editing. We further propose a progressive multistage training strategy to mitigate task competition and catastrophic forgetting caused by interference among multiple tasks. This in turn helps maintain the performance of each individual task and may even lead to improvements in certain aspects. Experimental results on TTA task and six audio editing tasks show that our unified model achieves competitive performance with task-specific models, laying a groundwork for further exploration of unified audio generation models.

UNISON: A Unified Sound Generation and Editing Framework via Deep LLM Fusion

We present UNISON, a latent diffusion framework that unifies speech generation, sound generation, and audio editing within a single model. A single model handles text-to-audio, text-to-speech, zero-shot speaker cloning, mixed speech-and-sound generation, scene-level audio editing, speech-in-scene editing, and timed temporal composition, all of which share a single set of weights. Our architecture features two core designs: (1) Layer-wise deep LLM fusion, which injects hidden states from uniformly sampled layers of a frozen MLLM into corresponding MM-DiT blocks via learned projections, providing depth-matched semantic conditioning that improves instruction following over single-layer baselines; and (2) a unified multi-task architecture where task identity is encoded solely by a channel-wise mask and source audio is provided through VAE-encoded channel concatenation. Training is stabilized by an online GPU-side multi-task data synthesis pipeline with task-homogeneous batching and a two-stage curriculum. With 621M--732M trainable parameters, UNISON achieves results competitive with or exceeding task-specialist models across evaluated domains, while being roughly 4×4\times smaller than comparable unified systems.

SemanticAudio: Audio Generation and Editing in Semantic Space

In recent years, Text-to-Audio Generation has achieved remarkable progress, offering sound creators powerful tools to transform textual inspirations into vivid audio. However, existing models predominantly operate directly in the acoustic latent space of a Variational Autoencoder (VAE), often leading to suboptimal alignment between generated audio and textual descriptions. In this paper, we introduce SemanticAudio, a novel framework that conducts both audio generation and editing directly in a high-level semantic space. We define this semantic space as a compact representation capturing the global identity and temporal sequence of sound events, distinct from fine-grained acoustic details. SemanticAudio employs a two-stage Flow Matching architecture: the Semantic Planner first generates these compact semantic features to sketch the global semantic layout, and the Acoustic Synthesizer subsequently produces high-fidelity acoustic latents conditioned on this semantic plan. Leveraging this decoupled design, we further introduce a training-free text-guided editing mechanism that enables precise attribute-level modifications on general audio without retraining. Specifically, this is achieved by steering the semantic generation trajectory via the difference of velocity fields derived from source and target text prompts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SemanticAudio surpasses existing mainstream approaches in semantic alignment. Demo available at: https://semanticaudio1.github.io/

Vorch-Omni: Multi-Task Orchestration of Sight and Sound

Recent advances in generative video modeling have enabled diverse generation, reference-based synthesis, extension, and editing, but existing approaches often rely on fragmented task-specific models. A general model must distinguish heterogeneous target, source, and reference signals to determine what to generate, preserve, or use as guidance, while reducing interference among tasks. Joint audio-visual generation further increases this challenge by introducing diverse conditioning and output configurations across modalities. We present Vorch-Omni, a unified multi-task framework for audio-visual synthesis based on an arbitrary-condition-to-arbitrary-output formulation. It flexibly treats video and audio signals as either conditioning inputs or generation targets. Token-level conditioning masks and task identifiers distinguish targets, source content, and references, while position types separate temporal context from independent conditions. To capture semantic and structural information, Vorch-Omni employs complementary visual conditioning pathways: a vision-language model interprets sampled frames with text instructions, and a video VAE encodes conditions into latent tokens for direct guidance. We further build a distributed data pipeline to curate diverse temporally aligned audio-visual clips, generate structured captions and metadata, and balance heterogeneous task distributions. Built on a single flow-matching diffusion transformer without task-specific architectural changes, Vorch-Omni supports over 10 tasks, including text-to-video, text-to-audio-video, image- and reference-conditioned generation, temporal extension, audio-driven generation, video transformation, and audio-visual editing. This unified framework provides a scalable foundation for general-purpose audio-visual generation and manipulation.
