Designed Vocalizations Dataset: Sound-Designed Human and Animal Voices for Non-human Voice Conversion

Abstract

Advances in AI-based voice conversion have enabled a wide range of media applications, including films, audiobooks, and games. However, most research and public benchmarks still focus on natural human speech, leaving designed vocalizations, such as monster growls and robotic voices, underexplored, partly due to the lack of publicly available resources. To address this gap, we introduce the Designed Vocalizations Dataset, constructed by curating diverse raw vocal sources, including speech and animal vocalizations, and applying professional vocal effects processing to produce corresponding effect modified variants. We further provide a standardized test set with explicit seen/unseen splits over source timbre groups and preset styles to assess generalization under controlled conditions. Finally, we report baseline benchmark results to support reproducible evaluation and future research. From A to B to A: Palindromic Zero-Shot Voice Conversion with Non-Parallel Data

We present a voice conversion (VC) framework that utilizes K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) retrieval over WavLM representations to align non-parallel source and target speech, constructing synthetic training pairs for supervised learning. The retrieved segments serve as synthetic inputs, while real target audio provides ground-truth outputs, forming a synthetic-to-real training paradigm that naturally supports multilingual data without requiring parallel corpora or explicit alignment. To ensure consistent target-speaker identity, we incorporate a speaker loss derived from a pretrained speaker verification model. Experiments across multiple languages demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves high naturalness and strong speaker similarity, outperforming competitive VC baselines, despite being trained exclusively on English data. Audio2Tool: Speak, Call, Act -- A Dataset for Benchmarking Speech Tool Use

Voice assistants increasingly rely on Speech Language Models (SpeechLMs) to interpret spoken queries and execute complex tasks, yet existing benchmarks lack domain breadth, acoustic diversity, and compositional reasoning complexity to evaluate tool-calling performance. We introduce Audio2Tool, a large-scale dataset comprising approximately 30,000 queries designed to assess tool-calling capabilities of SpeechLMs across three primary domains: Smart Car, Smart Home, and Wearables. Our benchmark features a multi-tier complexity hierarchy, ranging from simple direct commands to complex multi-intent and needle-in-a-haystack extraction to isolate distinct failure modes. To ensure realism, we employ zero-shot voice cloning text-to-speech synthesis and diverse noise profiles to simulate in-the-wild conditions. Evaluations of state-of-the-art SpeechLMs and ASR-LLM pipelines show strong performance on simple commands but significant degradation under compositional and acoustic challenges. SynSFX: Multi-Model Sound Effects Synthesis Dataset for Deepfake Detection and Evaluation

While audio deepfake detection has advanced significantly, representative detectors show limited generalization to synthetic sound effects. Existing environmental audio datasets such as EnvSDD provide important initial resources, but remain limited in scale and generation provenance for studying isolated sound-effect deepfakes. To support this direction, we present SynSFX, a large-scale corpus of 43374 clips (26452 synthetic, 16922 real) spanning 7 popular text-to-audio models.
