HiResNets: Native Full-HD Video Recognition with Foveal Residual Streams

Authors: Shivani MallSwarnim JainJoao F. Henriques

Abstract

Much of the recent progress in image and video recognition has come at the cost of memory: larger models, increased resolution, and longer temporal contexts. An inevitable component is the quadratic (or larger) growth of memory and compute based on image resolution, which is a property of the grid sampling used in convolutional networks and vision transformers. In this work we study residual networks whose convolutional blocks have logarithmic-square growth instead, enabling them to process very high-resolution video quickly. The key insight is to use a residual architecture's residual stream as a high-resolution buffer, to which convolutional blocks only read and write via log-polar image warp operations. Layers adaptively focus on different parts of each frame, with very high resolution only near the focus point. A complete high-resolution representation is built up in the residual stream, analogous to eye saccades creating a complete picture in biological vision, and a theoretical construction is presented that eliminates the quadratic dependency of the residual stream resolution. Experiments demonstrate that our proposed HiResNets learn to foveate around scenes similarly to human vision, and have superior performance in difficult egocentric video recognition tasks, especially egocentric video with small objects and fine-grained recognition.

HiReFF: High-Resolution Feedforward Human Reconstruction from Uncalibrated Sparse-View Video

Uncalibrated volumetric video streaming for human reconstruction is essential for holographic communication and AR/VR, yet remains challenging due to the need for temporal consistency and computational efficiency from sparse-view inputs. Existing methods rely on per-scene optimization or calibrated cameras, while recent feed-forward models are limited to low-resolution (0.5K) single-frame synthesis. We present HiReFF, a feed-forward method for 2K-resolution 360° human video reconstruction from uncalibrated sparse-view videos. Our framework decomposes the problem into two key tasks: foreground 3D Gaussian reconstruction from sparse-view videos (four views separated by 90°) and computationally efficient high-resolution synthesis. To enable the former, we propose Scale-synchronized Camera Calibration to resolve scale ambiguity for multi-view supervision, and Gaussian-wise Foreground Masking to reconstruct clean foregrounds by modulating Gaussian parameters. For efficient high-resolution synthesis, our High-resolution Side-tuning achieves 2K rendering by augmenting the Gaussian head with supplementary features while keeping the backbone at 0.5K, drastically reducing computational overhead. Experiments demonstrate that HiReFF significantly outperforms existing methods in high-resolution streaming volumetric video reconstruction. https://iridescentjiang.github.io/HiReFF

NanoVSR: Towards Real-Time Video Super-Resolution on Edge Devices

Recent Video Super-Resolution (VSR) methods rely heavily on transformers and explicit optical flow, creating computational overhead and custom operations that hinder deployment on hardware accelerators like TensorRT. To address this, we introduce NanoVSR, a scalable, fully convolutional architecture designed for resource-constrained edge devices. Using structural reparameterization, NanoVSR collapses into standard convolutions during inference, ensuring seamless hardware compatibility and negligible runtime overhead. Furthermore, despite lacking explicit motion compensation, it maintains competitive restoration quality by implicitly learning spatio-temporal alignments through progressive training. Evaluated on the REDS4 benchmark, NanoVSR demonstrates an exceptional balance between accuracy and computational efficiency, significantly improving the trade-off for compact architectures. Our NanoVSR-644k baseline yields 28.64 dB PSNR while delivering 27.2 FPS on the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16GB (25W), offering massive speed gains over heavier models. The scaled NanoVSR-1.7M variant reaches 29.15 dB with a throughput of 19.58 FPS, providing superior, edge-optimized upscaling. Code is available at https://github.com/filippawlicki/nanovsr.

JetViT: Efficient High-Resolution Vision Transformer with Post-Training Attention Search

We introduce JetViT, a novel family of hybrid-architecture Vision Transformer (ViT) models that match the accuracy of state-of-the-art full-attention vision foundation models while achieving substantially higher inference efficiency on high-resolution images. At the core of our approach is Post-Training Attention Search, a post-training acceleration framework that converts pre-trained full-attention ViTs into efficient hybrid-attention variants by identifying and replacing redundant full-attention blocks with linear or window-attention blocks. By inheriting the MLP and attention weights from the base model, Post-Training Attention Search efficiently explores the architectural design space through three key steps: (1) optimizing the linear-attention block design; (2) finding the best combination of linear-attention and window-attention blocks; and (3) identifying and preserving critical full-attention blocks. We evaluate JetViT on two representative high-resolution vision foundation models, DINOv3 and DepthAnythingV2. On the NVIDIA H100 GPU, JetViT achieves up to 1.79x higher throughput and up to 44.81% lower latency without sacrificing accuracy. We will release our code and accelerated ViT models soon.
