WaveFreqAnchor: Wave-Structural Anchoring and Frequency Correction Diffusion for Training-Free Face Restoration

Abstract

Diffusion-based face restoration that adjusts the sampling trajectory of pre-trained diffusion models has achieved remarkable progress. However, existing approaches provide insufficient constraints during reverse diffusion, causing identity-related structural drift and degraded fidelity under severe degradations. To address this, we propose WaveFreqAnchor, a training-free framework based on Wave-Structural Anchoring and Frequency Correction Diffusion. Specifically, Anchor-Space Wave-Structural Guidance (ASWG) constrains facial structures through anisotropic wave-response consistency, while Multi-scale Wavelet-Fourier Injection (MWFI) aligns the predicted low-frequency subband with the observation by replacing its phase, correcting inconsistencies accumulated during reverse diffusion. For real-world scenes, we further introduce Subband High-Frequency Enhancement (SHE), which performs bounded, spatially masked refinement on the predicted high-frequency subbands to recover fine facial details under unknown compound degradations. Together, these designs effectively preserve facial identity while restoring sharp and realistic facial details. Extensive experiments show that our method consistently outperforms existing methods, achieving high-quality and high-fidelity face restoration.

HDRFace: Rethinking Face Restoration with High-Dimensional Representation

Face restoration under complex degradations still remains an ill-posed inverse problem due to severe information loss. Although diffusion models benefit from strong generative priors, most methods still condition only on low-quality inputs, making it difficult to recover identity-critical details under heavy degradations. In this work, we propose HDRFace, a High-Dimensional Representation conditioned Face restoration framework that injects semantically rich priors into the conditional flow without modifying the generative backbone. Our pipeline first obtains a structurally reliable intermediate restoration with an off-the-shelf restorer, then uses a pretrained high-dimensional feature encoder to extract fine-grained facial representations from both the low-quality input and the intermediate result, and injects them as additional conditions for generation. We further introduce SDFM, a Structure-Detail aware adaptive Fusion Mechanism that emphasizes global constraints during structure modeling and strengthens representation guidance during detail synthesis, balancing structural consistency and detail fidelity. To validate the generalization ability of our method, we implement the proposed framework on two generative models, SD V2.1-base and Qwen-Image, and consistently observe stable and coherent performance gains across different architectures.

FADRA: Frequency-Aware Diffusion with Residual Adaptation for Video Face Restoration

Video face restoration (VFR) aims to recover high-quality and temporally consistent facial details from severely degraded video sequences; however, existing methods still struggle to balance spatial fidelity and temporal coherence under complex degradations. To address this, we propose FADRA, a frequency-aware diffusion framework with iterative residual adaptation specifically tailored for robust VFR. We first leverage the strong temporal consistency of a pre-trained text-to-video diffusion model and introduce lightweight LoRA adapters together with a Low-Quality (LQ) Pixel-Alignment Feature Fusion module to efficiently adapt the frozen generative prior to the VFR task. To further adapt the frozen diffusion backbone to the downstream VFR task beyond LoRA-based adaptation, we introduce a Repeated Residual Adaptation Head (RRAH) for step-wise residual refinement after the diffusion backbone. To make this refinement explicitly guided by the degraded observation, RRAH further takes the LQ latent together with the current velocity prediction as input, allowing the model to repeatedly revisit LQ cues and predict residual updates at each flow-matching step. This LQ-guided repeated residual adaptation helps recover fine facial details while preserving the inherent temporal priors of the pre-trained model. Furthermore, to ensure the structural integrity of perceptually important details, we introduce a Frequency-Aware Loss that provides explicit supervision across multiple spectral bands, emphasizing visually sensitive frequency components that are crucial for perceptual quality and prone to temporal jittering. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FADRA recovers better facial structures and produces more temporally consistent videos than state-of-the-art methods, leading to clear gains in both quantitative metrics and visual perception.

Bridging Information Asymmetry: A Hierarchical Framework for Deterministic Blind Face Restoration

Blind face restoration remains a persistent challenge due to the inherent ill-posedness of reconstructing holistic structures from severely constrained observations. Current generative paradigms, while capable of synthesizing realistic facial details, remain limited by the under-constrained nature of blind restoration, where severely degraded inputs can be mapped to plausible yet identity-inconsistent outputs. To address this issue, we present Pref-Restore, a hierarchical framework for deterministic BFR. Our design is organized around three complementary principles: (1) Semantic Information Augmentation, where an auto-regressive semantic branch converts image and text cues into structured tokens that provide a stable high-level anchor; (2) Texture-level Fidelity Alignment, where the diffusion generator is trained under this anchor to recover identity-relevant details; and (3) Fidelity-constrained Preference Optimization, where a face-aware reward refines the diffusion trajectory while controlling the quality-fidelity trade-off. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world benchmarks show that Pref-Restore achieves state-of-the-art performance, with stronger identity-sensitive fidelity and lower restoration uncertainty across repeated sampling. Systematic ablations further attribute these gains to the proposed hierarchical design, showing the necessity of staged training, the robustness of the text pathway under deployment-faithful conditions, and the benefit of fidelity-constrained preference optimization.
